Professional Development

Proper teacher training is a key to the success of Introduction to Algebra, and the writing team wants everyone to have access to good training. We are proud to offer both face-to-face and e-learning professional development.

Face-to-Face Professional Development:

  • Face-to-face professional development is strongly encouraged for this program, since many of the concepts are developed in non-traditional ways. Six to eight full days of training is optimum for complete understanding of the materials. Two to three full days is recommended prior to the start of using the program, with the remaining five to six days to occur during the school year about every four to six weeks.
  • A strong curriculum is only as good as its delivery, and CMAT wants to fully support teachers in their intent to deliver instruction with fidelity to ensure the maximum benefits to their students.

Potential Benefits:

  • Training provided from an experienced Introduction to Algebra author/trainer who knows the program intimately
  • Opportunity to get insight on challenging lessons
  • Time to prepare prior to the beginning of use
  • Learn how to initially navigate the program and get continued support as needed
  • Specific questions and issues addressed
  • Collaborate with others at the same site and within the same district
  • Share ideas with teachers from other locations

Regional Training:

When possible, CMAT will schedule training at a regional site to encourage districts/schools from surrounding areas to attend. A district may offer to host the training, therefore receiving the benefit of one teacher attending the professional development series for free. The cost of regional training is $150 per teacher/per day with a minimum of 6 participants and maximum of 20 participants.

Customized Training:

CMAT will customize trainings to fit the needs of small and large groups. The maximum number of participants is 20. Customized training cost $2,000 per day plus expenses if outside of Los Angeles County. The length of the training will be dependent upon which topic(s) are being covered.
